ABOUT ME
I am Michael Okpala, a Writer and Director.
Nothing truly took form until I began writing my own story.
I am originally from Anambra State in the eastern part of the country, but I have spent my entire life in the Western states of Lagos and Ogun. I had my primary and high school education spread across roughly seven institutions within both states due to relocations and migration factors. I finished secondary school as a science student and began my working career as a high school teacher of Mathematics while uncovering my abilities as a writer at the age of fourteen.
Writing has since then been my stronghold, a financial saviour, and a source of escape. As a writer, I switched to the field of arts to pursue my dream as a playwright and director, successfully writing my entrance examinations afterwards. I am currently a penultimate student at the University of Ilorin, studying in the Department of Performing Arts. I am funding my education through my work as a fictional and content writer.
I have written more than fifty pieces of prose, scripts, and hundreds of poems, one of which the Federal Ministry of Education has approved for high school entrance examinations. I have won several writing awards at departmental, faculty, and student union levels and look forward to making more impact on a global scale.
In my field of study and career, I have often encountered limited opportunities within the development sector, as many people do not view artistry as a critical component of societal progress. I strongly disagree with this perspective.
I am committed to leveraging my natural abilities as a writer and creatively critical thinker to make a meaningful and positive impact on the world. Through storytelling and innovative thinking, I aim to influence change and inspire others, ultimately contributing to the betterment of society.
My most unconventional skill lies in crafting narratives that seamlessly blend diverse cultural perspectives. I can adapt storytelling to bridge gaps, using language as a tool for empathy and understanding even on a global scale. This ability to weave together global experiences allows me to connect audiences across borders, fostering shared human connection.
I currently reside in a private hostel within my institution, standing as the scholar of my department, aiming for greatness.
